Program Information

Through the Dads Matter program, CAO provides a county-wide approach to helping vulnerable fathers and families through parenting education, individual comprehensive case management and employment assistance.

Eligible participants are Scioto County residents who are married or unmarried biological fathers, expectant fathers, adoptive fathers, stepfathers, or other father figures, for a dependent child or young adult child up to 19 years of age.

Through collaboration with the OSU Scioto County Extension Office, an evidenced-based fatherhood program is provided that is a total of 16 hours spread over multiple weeks. The curriculum used with the Dads Matter project is PREP’s On My Shoulders program, which “is a unique, interactive curriculum designed to equip men with the skills for healthy relationships, especially with their children. Themes include communication, stress, coparenting, commitment, discipline and gratitude.”

Other services, including comprehensive case management and employment assistance are available through the Dads Matter program as well. Participants can receive individualized assistance navigating the resources available through the OhioMeansJobs – Scioto County center and be connected to area services and activities identified as potentially helpful in overcoming barriers, upgrading skills, and maximizing individual strengths. Those individuals meeting eligibility and suitability requirements established through the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act may also be able to access paid work experience activities, on-the-job training opportunities, financial assistance to attend post-secondary education, and a variety of support services.
